Water Table

Yesterday Froggy had a tough time at school because she didn't want to help clean up.

Today was a much different day.

The note in her agenda read, "Helped clean today while talking about the water table." It had a nice smiley beside it.

She was good at home too, other than a couple little meltdowns that I think resulted from a combination of being hungry (she didn't eat lunch, apparently) and being sleepy (she didn't rest well last night). She was talkative and silly.

We also noticed something today that we'd never noticed before. She has this Thumbelina laptop toy and it has a number of different games on there. She was playing a number game today and was doing math. It was simple addition and subtraction, but it surprised me--I'm awful at math and though her daddy is pretty good, neither of us are whizzes at it. Neither of us have really worked with her on it other than occasional questions (if you have two apples and I give you one more, how many do you have?) but she's never given us an answer. She would get some wrong answers on the game but she got some right too, and that really shocked me. She's only four and it hadn't occurred to me that she might actually be good with numbers. So that's something for us to nurture.

Tomorrow is some kind of parent advisory group for the parents of ESE students with the school board. I have no idea what to expect, really. I'm a little nervous but at least Froggy's daddy is off from work so he can go with me. I'll share more once I know what it's all about.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

  2. What fun to see what she is learning about numbers!

  3. Wolfie: At this stage I kind of let her lead the way with what she's interested in. If we show too much interest in what she's doing she becomes resistant. So I just watch quietly while she does her own thing. :)

JDaniel4's Mom: Thanks for stopping by! It is fun--I have grandmothers who are good with numbers but no one in the immediate family is. It's exciting to have an emerging math whiz!

If anyone has questions or comments or advice feel free to share. Oh, and no hate, please. It hasn't been an issue thus far and I hope it won't be. Other people using this blog as a platform to spew unkindness or judgment at parents who don't share their opinions or parenting styles won't be tolerated. Friendly, well-informed debate is another thing entirely, and as I love to learn, I'd love for you to share any research or information you stumble across.
