Getting There

Little Froggy is doing well in school. She has a friend, which tickles me beyond words. Unfortunately she is also picking up some bad habits from a little boy in class. This little boy isn't as verbal as she is and I think his screaming fits stem partly from that, but Froggy doesn't have that excuse anymore. She's capable, even if she isn't willing.

So now we're back to screaming fits with the new addition of growling. Believe it or not, the screaming isn't the same as before. Before, there was this sound of frustration in it. Now, it's this indignant, how-dare-you-defy-me screech. If it wasn't ear-splitting and painful, I'd almost say it was impressive!

She's getting better in other ways though. Recently she's become obsessed with asking whether everyone is okay. It's precious but at the same time I'm worried that she's going to worry herself too much and make herself sick. She'll ask me a dozen times if I'm okay, and if I'm sitting with my eyes closed or with my head down she asks me that much more. Before he goes to work her daddy tells her to take care of me so I'm a little afraid it's giving her a complex. The flip side is that at least she's showing concern for someone other than herself or her toys, which is a big change from how things have been the last year or so. I'll take what I can get. :)

Her teacher is going to do an experiment in the classroom. Froggy scripts a great deal of what she says to people and most of what she says comes from her couple favorite tv shows and movies. Her teacher calls them movie phrases. She's had this idea to start using "classroom phrases" and trying to get Froggy to script off them and then gradually coax her into conversational language. Once she and her aid get it going they'll send a list of phrases home for us to work on. This should be a very interesting little experiment.

I've also discovered a website called MyAutismTeam. Maybe someone out there will find it useful. I'm still playing around with it so we'll see how that goes.

  1. What a sweet girl! When I read about her she reminds me so much of my niece. I'm curious to see how the classroom phrases go. That seems like a great idea.
